05 Camry  I love how attached people get to their cars.  The bond between driver and vehicle is especially close when the miles start racking up. In the case of Rosicella Flores, the relationship with her Camry is all about her family. Rosicella has been the  owner of her Toyota Camry since 2005.  She moved from San Diego, CA to San Jacinto, CA and was looking for a higher mileage car that she could use to commute.  She wanted to stay close to her father, who was a diabetic and nearing retirement to make sure he wasn’t commuting alone.  They wanted a dependable and high-mile car they could commute with together, and they were estimating about 5000 miles a month.

In what would end up being a very challenging time for her and her family, the Toyota came through with flying colors.  She tells me she’s also had some pretty crazy adventures with her father in the Camry. One involving driving over a bridge in the Escondido area where gulfs of flame were coming out from underneath, and being completely surrounded by orange and black.

To bring us up to the present, Rosicella’s father is now retired and she works in the same location, but now has a new and better job.  The other day, while leaving for work, she glanced at the odometer and noticed she had accumulated 494,000 miles. Rosicella contacted me, and gave me the low down on her car. In terms of maintaining the her Camry,  she changes the oil every five weeks when she hits the 5,000 mile mark, though she says she’s recently started to do it every 4,000 miles. She’s only ever replaced the catalytic converter and the exhaust manifold, and does regular maintenance including fluid level top-ups, tire changes and alignment when they are needed. Rosicella’s Camry is nearing an amazing milestone and we hope to be part of it. She sent Toyota a letter when she hit 300,000 miles to share her story with them.  She is sending them another letter for the 500,000 mile milestone. I hope she gets a reply.  Let us know when you get there, Rosie.  HMC will be cheering you on all the way.
