GREY GHOSTUnless it’s an F-150 or some Ford super truck, we don’t get a lot of stories about high-mile fords ’round these parts. Not sure why that could be. However, today, we are talking about a Ford Fusion SEL V6 from 2008 that has done what few Fusions have fared. HMC reader Floyd Allion let me know that his Ford has in fact forged forth with fury:

This is my first Ford vehicle in over 20 years. I bought her in Feb 2010 with 58,000 miles. I wasn’t sure I wanted a Ford, but I had just been stationed on site at the Ford Dearborn Rouge complex and was required to drive a Ford if I wanted to park inside the complex. It turned out to be the best decision. As I am about to roll up my 400000th mile, I have had toimage003 do almost nothing but the normal maintenance. Engine and Transmission are 100% original. The most major items I’ve replaced are both front wheel bearings and both rear brake calipers. I’ve had one tune-up and trans filter/fluid change at around 250000. She has survived 2 run ins with the Michigan whitetail population. My deer count is approx. 15 in the last 25 years. My car insurance hates me!
This car still drives like the day I test drove it. Apparently, she doesn’t know she’s an old lady, and I’m not about to tell her!
Here’s to at least another hundred K.
Thanks for your interest,

Floyd, thanks for sharing your Ford story with us. For all of those Fusion owners out there: Yes, it’s possible to get your car to those lofty heights. Never give up. Floyd, let us know when you hit 500,000 miles! Fight the futile Ford Fight with all of your Focus. Whoops, sorry. That’s another model altogether.

The High Mile Club’s Hall-of-Fame is becoming quite the competitive scene. We’ve seen a number of cars drop out of the top 50 in the past year. Simply having 500,000 miles is no longer enough to get you in. But that didn’t stop Mike Lipperman. I did a quick blurb about Mile and his 2001 Avalon back in 2014. He had crossed the 500k mile mark and was featured in the news. But his Avalon was recently bumped from the the top 50.

Well, Mike and his Avalon are back with a vengeance. His Toyota now sits at 617,300 miles and the local news did another story on him when he hit 600,000 miles. That means Mike shooting back into the top 50 at #33, up from #52. Well played, Mike. Keep us updated on the Avalon.

Hello to all of you high-milers out there. Our first exclusive story of 2017 comes to us from Ontario, Canada. High-miler Michael Proctor has a 1998 Honda Accord EX Coupe with 745000 km on it. That is around 468000 in miles. Here is a little from Michael about his Accord.

From Michael: Hi there! I live in Ontario Canada, I have a 1998 Honda Accord EX coupe which is my pride and joy besides my 2012 civic and 2000 Integra. I have done lots of enjoyable road trips in this accord when i purchased it I was commuting from Guelph to Oshawa and back daily which is 3-4 hours each way per day. The car is an absolute gem. It is rusting however that will be fixed soon! In Canada we are in kilometers so it has 748,219 kms. which is about 468,000 miles. Besides a couple clutches, a door, tires and brakes and flex pipe its been great. It still has the original engine and believe it or not doesn’t burn oil. It just leaks a little bit once in awhile!

Michael also mentions the car was purchased at Sherway Acura in 1999 by his friend, and he then he bought it. Michael used the car for many trips to Florida, Georgia, New York, California and Colorado. Now it’s being used as a commuter car. Michael believes that if you maintain a car, it will last a lifetime. We feel that way as well here. Keep up the driving Michael. Let us know when you hit 500,000 miles!

Ali Aslam over at Carinorder was the kind gentlemen who helped me sort out some of my typos and wonky numbers. Thanks to him, we have more accurate stats on high-mile cars. To thank him, I want to share this nifty infographic he made on the top five high-mile cars in history (that we know of.)  Please enjoy!

There has been a bit of a lull in the world of high-mile cars, but no worries. We are ever vigilant here at HMC. While the story is a few weeks old now, I was able to dig up an article about a cow inseminator bovine reproduction specialist and his 2003 Chevrolet S-10. Larry Hansen is on Oil Change number 167 and the engine has never been touched. That isn’t to say there hasn’t been work done on the truck. It’s just engine that is still pristine. Larry is also a sports official and drives on average 1500 miles a week to meet his various commitments. The man old keeps insane records on his service work. He has eight or some diaries that detail the entire service history of the truck.  Check out the story more details.

Larry plans to keep the truck for now and continue driving it until he can get something newer. I feel he’ll continue to have amazing luck with his truck.  Good luck, Larry, you’ve won our hearts.

Do you like trucks? No? Well, then you’d better skip this story. Trucks are getting a lot of love on this blog as of late. In fact, Silverados in particular. We just blogged about a million mile+ Silverado last week. Well guess what? We have another to talk about. This story goes back a few years, but is still a reminder of how rock solid trucks can be. Frank Orsenick bought himself a dandy little 1991 Silverado in 1996 with 41, 000 miles on the clock. I think you know how the rest of the story goes.  He drove it to crazy new height and from what I can find it sits at 1,289, 882 miles. But it’s entirely possible that he’s been driving it more. Frank, if you are out there, let us know how the truck is doing.
