Hello readers. It has been a long time since we’ve chatted about high-mile cars. Fear not. While the updates aren’t as often as I’d like, I’m working on trying a more regular schedule. In the mean time, let’s talk about Derek and his 2007 Honda Accord EX-L. Derek mailed to about his car and he told me that it has 579,000 miles on it. That is certainly a lot of miles. In fact, it’s enough to put him into the Hall-of-Fame right now. Let’s hear what Derek has to say about his Accord.

From Derek:  I am a huge fan of Honda vehicles, and I also used to have a fantastic ’95 Integra that I sold with 217,000 miles on it a few years ago. I would still be driving it if it didn’t succumb to 20 years of salty roads. It still ran fine when I sold it, but rust was eating the car alive.

Regarding the Accord, the oil was changed every 7 to 9 thousand miles at the dealership for the first 570,000 miles or so. I then started doing them myself, still using Honda’s recommended 5W-20. It does consume some oil, to the tune of about 1 quart every 1k or so. The automatic transmission fluid was changed at the 20170308_170352_resizeddealership once every year (about every 50-60k). It still runs strong and quiet, and the engine and transmission are still original. Neither have been rebuilt. The majority of the miles were put on by the previous owner, who worked in sales. I also do a fair amount of driving, as I tend to go on a lot of road trips and I also have a somewhat lengthy commute. The car is almost entirely original. Every panel is original, along with the original windshield. Everything still works, from the 6 CD changer to the heated power seats to the power locks & windows and heated mirrors. Hoping to take it to at least 600k, when I plan on getting a newer Civic or HR-V and retiring this vehicle to long trip vehicle status.

Autumn is fast approaching, and with it, some we have another high-mile truck. Yay! Let’s dive right in.  Today’s amazing high-miler comes to us from Steven Stokes. Here is the lowdown on his Silverado.

Just found this site. Great to see that others have long running vehicles.
I got a 2003 Silverado with over 551,000 miles on it, and I’m looking forward to seeing how many more I can gather up!! I bought my Chevy Silverado brand-new off the Chase Chevrolet dealership in Stockton, CA., it was my first, and only (so far), “Brand-new vehicle” that I have ever purchased, it had if I remember correctly, only 12 miles on it when I took it home.

Steven takes his driving quite seriously. Within a year he’d put 35,000 miles on the vehicle, and just like that,  it was out of warranty.  He states it’s been a dependable truck and the engine is original, however, the transmission and rear-end have some new stuff in them, though all still factory stock.

Steven says the Silverado has been in three rear-end collisions. Yikes! It even ate a brake rotor that came off of a scrap truck, and it has always taken him home.  Steven is forever grateful that his truck continues to let him drive it. We are as well.

He drives 100 miles a day and is aiming for a million. We’ll be right there with Steven as he aims for his goal. Keep on driving!  Your mileage puts you right into the top 50 hall-of-fame. Congrats!

Here’s a story from Ford’s social webpage in regards to a first responder truck that put in some serious time on the roads in Minnesota. The MDT says they haven’t had any major mechanical issues with the 2007 Ford F-250 Super Duty truck either. Sounds like a real work horse here.  It’s also a rare V10 variety from the F-250 series. I don’t usually like to dwell too much on fleet vehicles, as they are known to have multiple drivers and are owned by a division or company, but it’s nice to see what some of their vehicles are capable of when put to the test.  They retired the truck shortly after they hit the milestone. Who knows, maybe they’ll sell it to someone who can continue to add up the miles.

Note: I won’t be adding fleet vehicles to my Hall of Fame. My reason for this is that they usually have more than one driver and a division that monitors all repairs. I like seeing individual drivers in the hall of fame. If we do start to get more fleet vehicles, I might open up a fleet list. We’ll see how that goes.
