HMC Exclusive: 2003 Toyota 4Runner with 300k+ miles

Fiesta Island San Diego 4-12-2005 (46)
Hi everyone! I hope you are having a great spring. Things have been super busy in my neck of the woods, and that is why I haven’t updated this blog in over a month. But that ends now. Here’s a new blog post for you.
If you’ve read this blog for any amount of time, you’ve seen how it’s littered with 4Runner stories. Well, that is for a reason. The 4Runner must have been cut from diamond or something, because these things just keep going, and are apparently unbreakable. Here’s a quick tidbit from Galen, who describes his 4Runner for us:
“Our 2003 Toyota 4-Runner, Limited, 4WD, V8 has seen it all and done it all in 300,000+ miles. A desert package in Phoenix is a necessity with the transmission cooler, big fan and towing package. This truck has been on the California beach, climbed Pikes Peak in Colorado and pulled our 4000 lb. Fleetwood camper from the Mexican border to the Canadian border.
As a nature photographer with wife Diana, we drove into some remote parts of the west to find that perfect shot or hard to find animal. We’ve  been brushed by buffalo in Yellowstone and charged by bull elk in Colorado National Park.    a Colorado Springs week of 9-29-2009 pikes peak (337) (1)
During violent storms in Montana and Colorado we would abandon our camper to the safety of our Toyota 4-Runner which would weather most storms. In these 300K miles we’ve replaced the shocks once, radiator once and all other equipment is original. Of course tires, batteries, timing belts, wipers, brakes and bulbs were replaced at intervals.
I managed to wear the paint off the interior door handle and wear some leather on the driver’s seat from the many starts and stops.  Normal servicing was done at the dealer (Camelback Toyota, Phoenix) every 12-15K miles. As the original owner I didn’t expect it to go this far. Now 15 years later it drives and runs like new in the city or deep in the woods. Hats off to Toyota making this truck as rough and tough as the great American wilderness.”

Now that’s some adventure. I think I see why 4Runners rule the roost in terms of durability and longevity.  Thank you for sharing with us Galen. Let us know if you hit any updated milestones!
