Hello readers. It has been a long time since we’ve chatted about high-mile cars. Fear not. While the updates aren’t as often as I’d like, I’m working on trying a more regular schedule. In the mean time, let’s talk about Derek and his 2007 Honda Accord EX-L. Derek mailed to about his car and he told me that it has 579,000 miles on it. That is certainly a lot of miles. In fact, it’s enough to put him into the Hall-of-Fame right now. Let’s hear what Derek has to say about his Accord.
From Derek: I am a huge fan of Honda vehicles, and I also used to have a fantastic ’95 Integra that I sold with 217,000 miles on it a few years ago. I would still be driving it if it didn’t succumb to 20 years of salty roads. It still ran fine when I sold it, but rust was eating the car alive.
Regarding the Accord, the oil was changed every 7 to 9 thousand miles at the dealership for the first 570,000 miles or so. I then started doing them myself, still using Honda’s recommended 5W-20. It does consume some oil, to the tune of about 1 quart every 1k or so. The automatic transmission fluid was changed at the
dealership once every year (about every 50-60k). It still runs strong and quiet, and the engine and transmission are still original. Neither have been rebuilt. The majority of the miles were put on by the previous owner, who worked in sales. I also do a fair amount of driving, as I tend to go on a lot of road trips and I also have a somewhat lengthy commute. The car is almost entirely original. Every panel is original, along with the original windshield. Everything still works, from the 6 CD changer to the heated power seats to the power locks & windows and heated mirrors. Hoping to take it to at least 600k, when I plan on getting a newer Civic or HR-V and retiring this vehicle to long trip vehicle status.
Thanks for sharing your story Derek. We hope you get 600,000 miles out of that amazing Accord.
