HMC Update: 1999 4Runner hits 500, 000 miles. ALL THE MILES

Here is another awesome story to brighten your week. HMC Exclusive 4Runner owner Terina just let me know her 4Runner hit the big 500,000 milestone. Well done, Terina. With that milestone, I’ll be adding you to the Hall of Fame. Terina promised me a odometer photo for the occasion, but she never got back to me. Hopefully this story will remind her. Haha. How is the 4runner holding up? Going for a million?

  1. HaHaHa, I have her beat! 99 Toyota 4runner limited. Purchased new September of 99. I have used nothing but Castrol Synthetic. Original engine and trans, no work on either. 756,000 miles!

  2. Sweet! I have a 1999 Toyota 4Runner that is just getting ready to hit 300,000 miles…. I have never thought to use synthetic oil. Would it ruin it to switch to synthetic now?

    1. Never too late to switch to synthetic – it’ll slow wear by about 50% going forward. Stay with the current weight. I always use Mobile 1 5W30 in my 4,0 V6 2008 Sport Edition (soon to cross 108,000). Plan to keep as long as it behaves.

  3. I hit 500,000 last week in my 2002 4Runner sr5! Original motor and trans. Love going places! I’ve had oil and fluids checked every 3,000 miles faithfully. Utah
