HMC Exclusive: Josh Clymer and His 2005 Acura TSX

Just in time to celebrate our fiftieth post, we now have our first exclusive high-mile story. Last week, I posted about my 10,000 mile achievement and asked you out there to chime in with your odometer readings .

Well, over the weekend HMC reader Josh Clymer mentioned that his 2005 Acura TSX  was nearing 400,000 miles and would eclipse that mark in the next month. Those kind of numbers are just what we are looking for here at HMC, so I asked him if I could do a story about him and his car. Much of this can also be found at his blog.

Josh is a property damage appraiser who bought a 2005 Acura TSX for his wife. After a year or so, he “Borrowed” it back from her, and now he’s nearing 400,000 miles.  395, 406 miles to be precise.  Once he noticed that he was closing in on  such a massive milestone, he started a blog and began recording his journey. He even posts maintenance updates about the car.  As for major repairs, he says the tensioner bearing and starter have been replaced, and that he plans to replace the AC system in an upcoming visit to the mechanic.

I asked him if he had any plans for the car after 500,00 miles. He told me that he gave it some thought and wants to challenge Tyson Hugie’s Acura for the total mileage record. He says if the motor holds up, he might even take on the million-mile mark.  I can’t imagine there are many  Acuras out there with more miles than what Josh and Tyson have. I say go for it!

We’ll be following Josh here on HMC and we’ll let you know when he hits the next big milestone. Should he make 500,000 miles, we’ll be there to cover it.

Also, I must say, nice car Josh!

Disclaimer: When I say exclusive, I mean that this is the first story to come to us. Josh’s Acura has actually appeared on Tyson’s Drivetofive blog a number of time so it’s not 100% exclusive.

  1. This is a great story. It is nice to see people who care for their vehicles. First of all, people have to realize that there is not too much effort required by an owner. In fact, if you follow the maintenance schedule you should only have to give minimal effort in getting your car to 200,000 miles.
